May 13. 2013: My Spine surgery Back on March 8th was no small feat but was it was a life changing surgery. During that surgery I gain some of the feeling back in my left leg and have more mobility than I have in years but there is more to do... I have another surgery coming up in June... This one on my left hip. It will be another civilian surgeon. It will take a lot of work to get stronger but I am already better off than I was. I am a veteran who has been struggling with Post Traumatric Stress Disorder (PTSD) particularly badly the last few months. Injuries that I had from being injured in Iraq and a recent injury due to my grace on stairs have gotten bad enough that I have had to really force myself to reach out for a great deal of help... Which is something I am not used to doing. I know some of you have been concerned; thank you. Please keep checking on me because right now is when I need it the most. I will be alright as my medical issues are controlled and my PTSD calms down. The more I quilt and the more that I use my sports to get out and workout my mind and body- the better everything will be. To all of you, thank you for allowing me to be myself and follow my heart as it follows the stitches. Welcome to Stroke of Luck Quilting & Design

My name is Juliet and I am the designer and quilter behind the name. I started Stroke of Luck in 2007, when I was lucky enough to be given a longarm quilt machine through the Department of Veteran's Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation Program, for injuries I recieved while I was on active duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was stationed at Fort Bragg, serving in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne when I sustained a brain injury (among other injuries).

I do a great deal of public speaking on being female in the military, being a female war and combat veteran, recreating yourself after life changing occurances, and of course Quilting. I am also one of the founding board members of the R4 Alliance: Recreation Programs to Rehabilitate, Rejuvenate, Restore, and Reintegrate Our Military Family. Through R4 we promote, improve, and advocate evidence based recreational services for our military families on a national level with recreation programs across the United States. This program unites many programs to create a larger availablity, higher quality of care, more research, and better fundraising ability to all of it's affiliates. This program takes all of our recreational therapies; art, music, sports, and all things designed to get our military family engaged in the world around them and their future and puts them into one easy to navigate system. This is the future of PTSD and TBI treatment. I am also an Ambassador for the Invisible Disablilites Association and am active in the Daughters of the American Revolution as a volunteer on Veterans Committee and in multiple quilting guilds. If you are interested in having me speak at your function or are interested in finding out about getting an Auction quilt for your organization please send me an e-mail and we can talk about what would best suit your group.

As a fiber arts designer, I love creating innovative designs regardless of the application. I use unique blends of materials to enhance both function and form and love to share that with my friends and customers. I make numerous custom quilts to suit the individual needs of the customer or organization that will be recieving my work. Quilts can be done in short order and exactly as you have imagined; work with me and I can promise you an original design that will knock your socks off.
