Welcome to Stroke of Luck Quilting & Design

I am glad you have visited my site and want to know more about me and my work. I am a Veteran of the US Army. I initially joined the military when I was 17 and was promptly sent to Saudi Arabi during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. I spent many years in and out of the Army Reserves and National Guard and Active Army as I followed my husband across the country while he was on Active Duty with the US Marine Corps and the US Army. Eventually, I went back into the Regular Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC working as a National Registry Paramedic when I had my last life changing deployment to Iraq.

I was injured in Iraq in 2004 receiving a traumatic brain injury, three strokes, a heart attack, kidney damage, multiple surgeries, and Post Traumatic Stress. I am a disabled Veteran but I am also a full time Artist, mother of three who is also a Triathlete who enjoys training and challenging myself and those around me.

I do a great deal of public speaking on being female in the military (my perspective), recreating yourself after life changing occurances, and of course Quilting and my Art. I am also one of the founding board members of the R4 Alliance: Recreation Programs to Rehabilitate, Rejuvenate, Restore, and Reintegrate Our Military Family. R4 works to promote, improve, and advocate evidence based recreational services for our military families on a national level with recreational and therapeutic  programs across the United States. This program unites Non-Profit Veteran Services to create a larger availablity, higher quality of care, more research, and better fundraising ability for all of it's Members. This dynamic organization takes all of the recreational and therapeutic therapies; art, music, sports, and all things designed to get our military family engaged in the world around them, and puts them into one larger platform to allow for greater access and more continuity of care for the entire Military Family. This is the future of PTSD and TBI treatment; check them out at www.r4alliance.org

As a fiber artist and designer, I love creating innovative art regardless of the application. I use a unique blend of materials to enhance both function and form of all of my art and love to share that with my friends and customers. I make countless custom quilts to suit individual needs of customers and organizations that recieve my work. But more than anything I enjoy sharing what art and quilting has done for my life. I look forward to meeting you, so please, take a look around and feel free to let me know if there is anything I can do for you.nd nnd quiltingBut
